There are several storage solutions available to SLU staff. To identify the most suitable one for your project, you'll need to identify the characteristics of your data and storage needs, e.g. will you collect personal data, what are the amounts of data, will people outside SLU need to access data? To decide how to safeguard data properly, you should consider the consequences of files becoming contaminated, destroyed or lost, as well potential consequences of an unauthorized person accessing the data. The storage options available to you also depends on where you are based: what services are provided by or subscribed to by your department.
Data Management Support has developed a guide that aims to help you navigate the options for the storage and backup of data during a project, as well as what you need to consider in terms of information security:
To discuss what options may be suitable for your specific project in its various stages, feel free to book a Data Date with the DMS team. We will involve the IT department and Information Security if required.
Information about publishing data for a wider audience, as well as archiving of data from completed projects can be found on the following pages:
Remember: all activities within SLU research and environmental monitoring that generate data should set up a data management plan (DMP). This will help you adress data storage and security issues as well as data publishing and archiving at an early stage. Read more about data management plans and how DMS can help:
